What is a T1? The T1 system is an optical line which can transmit data at a much faster rate than a typical phone line or DSL internet connection can.

Switching to a T1 Line

If your company is thinking about growing, you need to consider your technology and whether it can keep up with expansion. For many businesses, no matter their business plan, upgrading to a T1 line is the best investment they can make. Instead of relying on phone lines or on a cable satellite internet , or DSL connection, you will be able to transmit information far more rapidly.

The T1 line can be a fiber optic cable or it can be a copper line in some rare cases. By carrying 1.544 megabits per second, you can use this line for a variety of purposes, including the replacement of your traditional phone line system.

When it comes to your computers, the T1 line is able to transmit 60 times more information than with any other typical modem system. It also doesn't have the downtime troubles one can have with dial up or even regular high speed modems. This also means that more than one person can be using the Internet without any interruptions or slowdowns in the network.

The installation of this new wiring and service can cost around $1000 a month, but this includes not only the phone company's charges, but also the fees of the ISP you have selected for your network design.

A T1 line doesn't seem to be any different than a traditional line in your office, but once you see how it performs, you can see how it makes all the difference with the networking standards.
