Networking Architecture Standards

Networking standards help you determine which network is right for your needs and what your network design plan needs to include. Alt tags for any picture:

LANs

While many more people are looking into wireless LANs, local area networks, these systems are still one of the most common networks used in business and personal systems. Local area networks are defined as systems which are setup within 100 feet of each others. These networks will include OSI (open system interconnect) layers as well as gateways, bridges, routers, and switches to connect all of the systems. The LAN networking standards for the Ethernet are 10M. The software standards include compression, error correction, and encryption. These are often starting points for links into the larger networks or these systems can work for business which is just starting out.

WANs

The WAN network is bigger (wide area network), encompassing networks over 1000 feet. These networking standards include a number of different connections - including T1 , DSL, and fiber optics. These are essential connections when you want to connect to the global network and not just computers and systems within a building. WANs can also include telephone point protocols as a part of the networking standards.

These networking standards can give you an idea of what your current business needs and what your future business needs might require. Investing in the technology of speed and connection might be worth the time and financial costs.
